چکیده

This paper presents a study on the role of adaptation and the effects of other intrinsic motivations in addition to the economic payoffs in social dilemmas. Social dilemmas are modelled in an abstract way using a game-theoretic framework and agent-based modelling. The role of adaptation is studied by implementing agents that use case-based reasoning in their decision making algorithm. The effects of other intrinsic motivations are explored by introducing a certain preference for social approval that makes the agents be slightly more inclined to cooperate. The experiments conducted reveal a new concept of equilibrium characterised by the fact that no player can be guaranteed a higher payoff by changing their decision. It is proved that there is a broad range of adaptive decisionmaking algorithms for which such concept of equilibrium can be relevant.

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning

In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...

Simulation of The Impact of Income Distribution on Social Unrest Using Agent-based Modeling Approach

Abstract Poverty and various forms of inequality, including class, gender, racial, and ethnic inequalities, are caused by imbalances of power relations and make society prone to social instability and unrest; Inequalities that are by-products of the growing power imbalances between the rich and the poor. The problems of poverty and inequality are inextricably linked to powerful economic and p...

A Two-Level BDI-Agent Model for Theory of Mind and its Use in Social Manipulation

This paper introduces a formal BDI-based agent model for Theory of Mind. The model uses BDI-concepts to describe the reasoning process of an agent that reasons about the reasoning process of another agent, which is also based on BDI-concepts. A case study illustrates how the model can be used for social manipulation. This case study addresses the scenario of a manager that reasons about the tas...

طراحی مدل‌ عامل‌محور و کاربرد آن در باستان‌شناسی

The aim of this paper is to consider what constitutes agent-based modelling (ABM) and how this can relate to archaeological reasoning. The development and construction of ABM models is an essential prerequisite for most archaeological reasoning. Both directly and indirectly, archaeologists are making extensive use of ideas and methods in applications that derive from archaeological, anthropolog...

Agent Based Simulation of Sale and Manufacturing Agents Acting Across a Pharmaceutical Supply Chain

Agent based modeling and simulation consider the behavior of agents acting in a system. The agents' interactions result in changing the agent’s behavior, the whole agent based system, and its environment. In this study, the manufacturing, sale, and receiving orders behaviors pertinent to manufacturing and sale agents acting across a pharmaceutical supply chain of an Iranian manufacturing medici...
